Baylor's MA in School Leadership offers an academic experience that is enhanced by Baylor's Christian environment and designed so that educators can manage the course schedule along with their career.
Grounded in Christ
The Baylor program is grounded in Christ, theory, and practice. As Christians, our work is animated by our faith, and we bring that mission to everything we do. We teach and lead for human flourishing because we believe our students and colleagues are made in the image of God. Our role as school leaders is to walk alongside others as we help them become who God created them to be. Sound educational theory informs our inquiry and practice as we seek to serve others well and holistically. Regardless of the school you are called to serve — public or independent — we seek to do justice, walk humbly, and lead wisely.
Diverse Schools
MA students will learn about all school contexts as public and independent school leaders work alongside one another on common problems of practice. The diverse school contexts in which MA students serve will enrich the experience of the cohort model as we learn from the adaptive challenges and opportunities of particular contexts. Whether a leader serves in a small independent school or a large urban school, we have much to learn from diverse perspectives.
Hybrid Classes
The MA is structured to offer a hybrid form of learning that supports connection and convenience. Face-to-face on-campus intensives will build relationships that will flourish as we also work virtually from our own school contexts. The program will launch with intensive courses on Baylor’s beautiful campus. In order to facilitate the cohesiveness of the cohort, we will spend days and evenings sharing meals, experiences, expertise, seminal readings, and meaningful expertise. This will support the virtual collaboration that will occur through one weekly synchronous online session and asynchronous work. We will meet on campus for one additional course to deepen our work.
Courses Done in 1 Year
In just over twelve months, students will complete 27 of the required 30 course hours. After one year, only the Capstone research will remain for the final semester. While this will make for an intense year, the final semester can then be devoted to your Capstone research.
+1 semester of Capstone Research
The culminating experience for MA students will be Capstone research based on improvement science. During the final you will conduct focused research on solving a problem of practice at your school. Using improvement science, leaders will identify problems of practice in their school context, identify a solution, and through an iterative process will execute, evaluate, and present the results of their solutions.
